Living in Las Vegas can be fun, exciting, a haze but basically overall plastic. Plastic from the lights to the interiors to "prosthetics" if you will. Venturing from the dry cracked lake bottoms to more progressively green terrain and mountains is like a breath of fresh air and culture. The west coast of L.A. is built around the spirit of its people and it's architecture is about as natural as the tide of the Pacific. Buildings range from sharp cornered condos to Gehry designed curved lines. Photographing architecture may seem stale to most but it actually mirrors that of an engagement session more than you would think. Buildings and good architecture (not the cookie cutter instant builds in our sin city) have character and traits just like people. Some are slouchy and slothful, some are charismatic and cheerful and sometimes we are lucky enough to see two that fit together perfectly. Some carry their own traits but fit together like they were built for each other... just like the diptych below. P.S. I am a sucker for a good diptych, maybe it is because I am a hopeless romantic for pairs.
Las Vegas. Is the beauty within or outward?
Tao. Rain. Lavo. Haze. Are these names of the elements of the earth or Las Vegas's hottest nightclubs? I spend hours in these places seeking out their elemental charm, if you will. Mostly, I take photos of couples and friends and strangers who have just met and if they were in a grocery store probably wouldn't help each other in the check out line... but in the Haze of Lavo during the Rain people seem to warm up to each other just fine. In all of the sin that this city seems to bring out of us, I have somehow found a few shots that make my soul soar and everything seem worthwhile. It's funny how there are so many situations in life that can push you, sometimes even compromising but there are always those little moments of peace that keep you grounded. That is what photography does for me. Keeps me grounded. It is that beam of light through the clouds of my life that shines in and shows me that all this work is worth it. One day I am going to take all those bits and pieces and make my old sandbox into a castle. So I think that it is all our jobs in this thing called life to see the gleaming happiness and joy that everyday can bring us. Find that joy no matter where we are, or where we are not. Yet.
the new black. a fresh page. | las vegas wedding photographer.
So apparently blogging is the the thing to do, express my creativity and my truest passion..... photography. This is a journal of my thoughts only to be expressed through the one thing that is worth a thousand words... a photo. My name is Sarah Bouchard and through the hardships that the state of the economy has placed on my freshly college graduated derrière; I have prevailed. My truest passion is to create and photography does that in a much more challenging manner for a type A creative personality. I can control each function from f-stops to shutter speed to the kelvin temperature of my perfectly created photo. Nothing gives my heart a little mini-attack like the first time I click that shutter and I just know, I just know that I captured a moment. A perfect moment, undisturbed and raw. I once thought that those moments were just purely achieved by a photographer in luck but then I discovered that a good photographer will not just capture the moment but they will make a moment seem unintentional and that is what I intend to do. I am going to shout out to a couple of my favorite artists in this field.... from the firework photographer Jerry Ghionis (that's what I call him, because every photo looks like a finale from a fourth of july celebration) to the woman who I would love to aspire to be as a blogger, Kelle Hampton I am so excited to be apart of this blank canvas. Blogging will be fun, no it will be great! This is like a piece of Ilford Silver Halide paper.... this computer is my darkroom and this webpage my canvas. Ok, am I getting deep yet? Maybe blogging will just be fun, like a new Hello Kitty diary complete with colored gel pens that I can't wait to write in! It's an empty scrapbook that is begging to be filled. It's a thousand dollar shopping spree to Michaels! So, here it is...a blank page. My hands are shaking! I can't wait to fill it... with the little things that make me happy.
